The trip starts at Leticia airport, Columbia, where Bushcraft Global’s Peter Magnin will greet you at the arrivals and transport us all to a nature reserve. This stunning venue is often host to the BBC and National Geographic as a based for jungle excursions. Here we’ll settle into beautiful wooden huts and decompress from travel and meet everyone on the trip. We’ll get out for a night hike into the jungle too!
Day two sees us travel to the town of Leticia, go through the process of stamping our passports out of Colombia, travel across the road to Brazil and stamp our passports into Brazil. Then we have time to buy necessary equipment for the expedition, machetes, fishing spears, and any extra gear or snacks that is needed. In the evening we pack all of our gear into our expedition packs and our small day bag to bring on the boat with us. Our travel luggage will be locked in a secure location in our HQ.
Day Three starts with a boat ride up the Amazon River tributaries for 5 hours (greatly depends on water level and changes to the river during the rainy season). Once we arrive, we usually need to portage all gear and food to camp. The rest of this day is setting up personal camp sites and getting ready to explore.
Days Four to Eight are full days living in the Jungle. Fishing, building traps, harvesting materials, basket weaving, adventuring with different tribe members… There will be opportunities to participate in different ceremonies that are all optional and as Peter says “Challenge by choice”. Every day different tribes will be going out and everyone will have opportunities to venture out with them. Getting primitive tattoos, building blow guns, spear fishing at night by dugout canoes, it’s a bushcrafter’s jungle paradise. Too much to fully list everything that happens.
Day Nine and the last morning in the jungle, breaking down camp, loading boats and gear and returning to HQ. Unload and start cleaning gear and take the evening to relax.
Day 10 We travel on the Amazon river again to try and find some pink dolphins and go visit monkey island. We usually have time for a nice meal in town for lunch and doing some souvenir shopping. In the evening we have a Brazilian style BBQ meal celebration with traditional dancing back at HQ to finish off the trip!
Day 11 we are returned to Leticia Airport for our flights home

International travel can often seem daunting, especially when making your way to what can appear to be a remote corner of the world, but fear not! Bushcraft Global specialise in getting international travellers the support they need to feel confident in their travel arrangements.
To join the trip you will need to book your own flights to Leticia Airport LET in Colombia. Most people travel via Bogota international, spending a night there before a morning flight to Leticia.
You’ll receive a more detailed travel advice document on booking and Peter will be on hand to help with any questions in the lead up to the trip.

A full suggested kit list is provided on booking, as well as help and advice along the way.
For what is a huge and epic adventure, the joy of bushcraft is that you actually need very little equipment at all. You’re typical backpacking outfit will almost certainly hold everything you need, with perhaps the addition of a hammock and a machete (these can be picked up very cheaply in town the day before the trip).
As a rough guide you’ll need:
Sleeping bag, hammock and tarp
Eating utensils and mug
Basic clothing for high humidity
A wash kit
A first aid kit with insect repellent
A water bottle
Headtorch and batteries
A rucksack and a day pack.
